Springfield, Illinois
SPI is our home airport
Our chauffeurs and our dispatch desk are in Springfield, Illinois, the same city Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport serves. A trip to SPI is not a car sent in from somewhere else, and that shows up in the small things: the pickup window is tighter, and the chauffeur knows which door you want on a Tuesday morning.
Most of that work is company travel. Teams flying out on the same morning book it as a corporate airport transfer and take one quote for the whole vehicle instead of four separate fares, and agencies, legislative offices and visiting delegations run their session-week pickups through government and legislative travel. Same chauffeurs, same city, whichever way the trip is booked.
Short notice is also more workable here than anywhere else we drive, because no one has to set out hours ahead of you. We prefer 72 hours’ notice, but call anytime. Short-notice trips depend on availability.
Chauffeurs and dispatch, both in Springfield
The vehicle for your SPI run starts its day in the same city you do, with a uniformed chauffeur who drives these streets every week.
Early departures and late arrivals, covered
Dispatch answers 24 hours a day. Give us the flight number and the scheduled time when you book, and call dispatch if the flight moves.
Hotel, Capitol complex and downtown pickups
Session weeks, board meetings and conference mornings start somewhere downtown, so we collect you at the door instead of a parking lot.
Know SPI
What to know about Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport
Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport, code SPI, is Springfield’s commercial airport, owned and operated by the Springfield Airport Authority at 1200 Capital Airport Drive. It is small, deliberately, and the small is the whole advantage.
Three airlines, three nonstop destinations
American Airlines flies out of SPI as American Eagle. Allegiant Air and Breeze Airways sell tickets from the same row of counters. On its own airlines page the airport lists nonstop service to Chicago O’Hare, Punta Gorda and Orlando. Route maps at small airports change from season to season, so confirm the flight you want with the airline before you plan a week around it.
One terminal, one checkpoint lane
There is a single terminal and a single screening checkpoint, with a separate line for PreCheck. No train between terminals, no second concourse, no quarter of an hour spent walking to a gate. Ticket counters for the three airlines sit between Doors B and C, and baggage claim with the rental counters is at the east end of the building, near Door D.
Sixty minutes, by the airport’s own guidance
Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport recommends arriving 60 minutes before departure for check-in and screening. That number, not the departure time, is what a pickup should be built around. One full flight and one lane can still stack up, so we leave room in the schedule rather than in the parking lot.
Door B opens 90 minutes out, and the terminal closes at 11:30 p.m.
Door B opens 90 minutes before the first scheduled departure. The terminal closes at 11:30 p.m., or once the last flight of the night has landed. That matters far more on the way home than on the way out, and it is the single best argument for having a chauffeur already waiting at baggage claim.
Terminal, airline and parking details checked on flyspi.com, September 15, 2026. Routes at small airports change, so confirm yours with the airline.

Departures
Springfield to the terminal
- Tell us the flightDeparture time, airline and how many are riding. That is enough to hold the vehicle.
- We work backward from 60 minutesThe airport’s guidance is to be in the terminal an hour before departure. Your pickup time is set from that, your address and the hour of the morning, not from a guess.
- Bags at your doorThe chauffeur is out of the car and loading before you reach the trunk.
- Dropped at Doors B and CThat is the stretch of the terminal where the American, Allegiant and Breeze counters are. You walk in with your bags and nothing else to sort out.
Arrivals
The terminal to your door
- Send the flight numberGive us the flight number and the scheduled arrival when you book, and call dispatch if it moves. Dispatch answers 24 hours a day.
- Land and walk to Door DBaggage claim is at the east end of the terminal, near Door D. It is a short walk in a building with one concourse.
- Your chauffeur is at baggage claimYour chauffeur is waiting inside at baggage claim with your name, takes the bags from there, and walks you out to the vehicle.
- Late flights are the pointThe terminal closes at 11:30 p.m. or after the last arrival, and the rental counters close with it. A reserved car is worth the most on exactly that flight.
General aviation
Private plane and charter shuttles at SPI
Not everything that lands at Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport comes off an airline. Executive Transportation drives the general aviation side of the field as well as the terminal, so a private, charter or corporate aircraft gets the same car at the same hour as a scheduled flight.
- 01
Pickup at the FBO door
General aviation at SPI runs through Stellar Aviation on Capital Airport Drive, and the corporate jet shop on the field is StandardAero. Your chauffeur waits at the FBO door rather than the airline terminal, so nobody walks a terminal they were never going to use.
- 02
Luggage loaded plane-side
Where the operator and the ramp allow it, we load and unload beside the aircraft, which is the whole point of flying privately. Where they do not, the bags move at the FBO door instead and the car is already there.
- 03
Crew and passengers on the same run
Flight crews need a hotel and passengers need an office, and both are usually on the clock. We carry them on one booking, in one vehicle or two, without the crew waiting for a second car to come back around.
- 04
A Sprinter for the delegation
A jet full of executives or a state delegation fits one Sprinter with room for hard cases and a stand-up aisle. Larger parties move to a coach. Either way it is one quote for the vehicle, not a fare per seat.
Give us the tail number, the operator and the scheduled arrival when you book, and call dispatch if it moves. Dispatch is answered 24 hours a day. We prefer 72 hours’ notice, but call anytime. Short-notice trips depend on availability.

Nine airports, ranked by how long the drive takes
Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport (SPI) is Springfield’s own airport, about 10 minutes from downtown. St. Louis Lambert is the closest major hub at about 1 hour 40 minutes, and Chicago O’Hare, Chicago Midway and Indianapolis all sit 3 to 3.5 hours out.
Which one is right depends on the fare, the schedule and how much of the day you are willing to spend in a car. We drive all nine, so the answer does not have to be the one that is convenient for us.
Clear-road figures from Springfield. Treat them as the floor, because Chicago approaches run longer in the weekday peaks.
Fly from SPI, or let us drive you to the hub. One call either way.
Why be driven
Four reasons to be driven to SPI
Parking at Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport is free, so a chauffeur has to earn the trip on something other than the parking bill. Here is where it earns it.
One quote for the whole vehicle
Transfers are quoted by the hour, with the minimum stated up front. The number a coordinator gives you covers the vehicle, so four colleagues split one fare instead of buying four seats.
Door to door
Your chauffeur loads the bags at your Springfield home, hotel or office and sets them down at the terminal door. There is no lot to find, no walk across it, and nothing to carry in a January wind.
Work or rest the whole way
Rear-seat time is billable time for most of our riders. Take the call, read the brief, or close your eyes before an early departure. The road is somebody else’s job.
Uniformed chauffeurs since 2004
Executive Transportation has driven Central Illinois since 2004. Chauffeurs arrive uniformed and early, and they know the approaches into Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport by heart.
We prefer 72 hours’ notice, but call anytime. Short-notice trips depend on availability.

Who we drive at SPI

SPI questions
Everything people ask about flying from Springfield
The answers below use the Springfield Airport Authority’s own published guidance, checked on flyspi.com on September 15, 2026, and our calibrated drive times from Springfield.
What is the closest airport to Springfield, IL?
Executive Transportation drives to Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport (SPI) more than any other airport, and it is the closest airport to Springfield, about 10 minutes from downtown. St. Louis Lambert is the nearest major hub at about 1 hour 40 minutes, while O’Hare, Midway and Indianapolis all run 3 to 3.5 hours by road.
Compare every airport we drive on the airports index.
What is the closest major airport to Springfield, Illinois?
Executive Transportation treats St. Louis Lambert (STL) as the closest major airport to Springfield, about 107 miles and 1 hour 40 minutes by road. Chicago Midway and Indianapolis sit at about 3 hours 10 minutes, and Chicago O’Hare at about 3 hours 27 minutes. We drive all four, in both directions.
See our Lambert car service page.
How early should I arrive at Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport?
Executive Transportation builds SPI pickups around the airport’s own guidance, which is to arrive 60 minutes before departure for check-in and security screening. One screening lane plus a separate PreCheck line keeps the building moving, but a single full flight can still stack up, so we leave a cushion in the schedule.
Give us the departure time and we set the pickup. Request a Quote.
Does SPI have free parking, and why book a car anyway?
Executive Transportation says it plainly: parking at Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport is free for the length of your trip, so driving yourself is genuinely cheap. A chauffeur earns the trip when the car is needed at home, when several colleagues travel on one quote, when the landing is near midnight, or when January makes the walk across the lot miserable.
Call (217) 523-5466 and we will tell you which trip is which.
Which airlines fly out of SPI?
Executive Transportation checked flyspi.com on September 15, 2026: American Airlines, Allegiant Air and Breeze Airways sell tickets at Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport, and the airport lists nonstop service to Chicago O’Hare, Punta Gorda and Orlando. Routes at small airports are added and dropped, so confirm on the airport’s own site before planning around one.
Read the SPI flying guide.
Can you pick me up at SPI late at night?
Executive Transportation covers late arrivals at Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport, which is when a reserved car is worth the most. The terminal closes at 11:30 p.m. or after the last flight arrival, and the rental counters close with it, so a midnight landing leaves very little to fall back on. Your chauffeur is already at baggage claim. Dispatch is answered 24 hours a day.
Send the flight number when you book the ride.
Do you pick up from private jets and charter flights at SPI?
Executive Transportation drives the general aviation side of Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport as well as the airline terminal. We meet private, charter and corporate aircraft at the FBO door, load luggage plane-side where the operator allows it, and carry crew and passengers on the same run. A Sprinter takes a whole delegation in one vehicle.
Send the tail number and the operator when you book the chauffeur.
How much notice do you need for a ride to SPI?
Executive Transportation prefers 72 hours’ notice, but call anytime. Short-notice trips depend on availability, and Springfield is where we have the best chance of covering one, because our chauffeurs and our dispatch work from here rather than two hours up the interstate. Session weeks and holiday Fridays fill first.
Call (217) 523-5466 and ask what is open.
How far is the airport from downtown Springfield and the Capitol?
Executive Transportation plans on about 10 minutes between Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport and downtown Springfield. The Illinois State Capitol complex, the Bank of Springfield Center and the downtown hotels all sit inside that same window, so a morning pickup does not have to start in the dark to make a 60-minute check-in.
See government travel for session-week pickups.

Transfers are quoted by the hour with the minimum stated up front, so a coordinator plans for the slow stretch on I-55 before the figure is written. A group of six splits one fare.
