What to know about Willard Airport
University of Illinois Willard Airport, code CMI, is owned and operated by the university itself and sits at 11 Airport Road in Savoy rather than in Champaign. One terminal, one checkpoint, one airline on the board, and a separate general aviation side used by charter and corporate aircraft.
It is in Savoy, and the university runs it
Travelers searching for a Champaign airport end up here, a few minutes south of the campus in Savoy. The university owns and operates the field, which shows in the way the building is run: a single terminal, a short walk from the front doors to the checkpoint, and a departure lounge with charging stations, vending on the main level and an Ion Grove Cafe past security that the airport lists as open around the clock.
One airline, two hubs, and a long reach behind them
American flies daily from Willard to Chicago O’Hare and Dallas-Fort Worth, and the airport counts over 200 connections behind those two hubs. That is a narrow board with a wide back end: if your itinerary routes through either hub, this is a short drive to a familiar boarding pass. Willard is the one regional field that charges to park
The posted rates, effective November 10, 2025, are free under two hours, $3.00 for two to five hours, and $10.00 for five to twenty-four hours and for each day after. The airport also warns that the parking system does not print a receipt automatically: you have to press the receipt button at the exit gate. Anybody expensing a trip should read that sentence twice.
There is no bus, and the taxis want a phone call
The airport states plainly that bus service is not available to or from Willard, asks travelers to call ahead to reserve a taxi, and lists hotel shuttles as something you arrange with the hotel. Uber and Lyft operate in the area. Nothing on the site sets aside a lane for chauffeured cars, which is beside the point: our chauffeur meets you inside at baggage claim and walks you out.
