Bloomington-Normal Airport Car Service & Chauffeured Transportation
Three airlines, four gates, and a chauffeur standing where the shuttle does not have to.
Central Illinois Regional Airport puts American, Delta and Allegiant inside one small terminal, with free parking and a front door you can see the gate from. Executive Transportation drives you to that door and collects you at it, including the late Atlanta arrival that lands long after the rest of the building has gone quiet.

Know the airport
What to know about Central Illinois Regional Airport
Central Illinois Regional Airport, code BMI, sits east of Bloomington and serves the Bloomington-Normal twin cities. It is a two level terminal: everything you do on the ground happens downstairs, and the gates are upstairs. Private and charter aircraft use the fixed base operator on the same field rather than this building.
Downstairs does the work, upstairs does the flying
CIRA lists the airline ticket counters, the rental car counters, the TSA checkpoint and baggage claim on the main level, with the Turbo Grill and the public lounge beside them. The gates, numbered 5, 6, 8 and 9, sit on the upper level with the Jetstream Restaurant, the Radar Bar and three conference rooms. It is a building you can read in one glance, which is exactly what you want at 5 a.m.
The terminal opens on the first flight, not the clock
The airport says the terminal opens two hours before the first scheduled flight and that security screening starts roughly 90 minutes before the first scheduled departure. Arriving before either of those gets you a locked door rather than a head start, which is why we build the pickup time from your departure instead of from a habit.
Three airlines, and one of them is the reason people drive here
American flies to Chicago O’Hare and Dallas-Fort Worth. Allegiant flies to Orlando Sanford, Tampa St. Pete-Clearwater and Mesa Gateway. Delta flies to Atlanta, and that Atlanta departure is the one thing none of the other regional fields in the area offer, which puts a third hub network in reach without the Chicago drive. Our regional airport comparison lays the four of them side by side.
Taxis and ride share are thin here, and the airport says so
CIRA states that taxi and ride share options are limited, that Uber and Lyft operate in the region, and that you should arrange a ride in advance, especially for a late night arrival. That is the whole argument for a booked car at this airport: a 10:40 p.m. landing is not the moment to discover how few drivers are on the app in McLean County.
Terminal, parking, ground transportation and airline details checked on the airport’s own site, cira.com, on September 17, 2026. CIRA warns that schedules can change with little notice, so confirm the flight with the airline before you travel.

Departures and arrivals at BMI
One front door, one checkpoint, and a building small enough that the walk is measured in steps.
Departures
Your door to the terminal door at BMI
- Send the flight and the carrierAmerican, Delta or Allegiant, the flight number and the scheduled departure. Allegiant departures often sit at odd hours, so the carrier alone tells a coordinator a lot.
- The pickup is built from the departureScreening opens about 90 minutes before the first flight of the day, and the terminal itself opens two hours before it. We work back from your departure and the drive, then add a cushion for weather on Interstate 55.
- Luggage loaded at your addressThe chauffeur handles the bags at the house or the office. Nobody wrestles a hard case into a trunk in the dark.
- Dropped at the main entranceTicketing, security and baggage claim are all on the main level, a few steps inside the doors. You are upstairs at the gate before most airports would have you through the first line.
Arrivals
Baggage claim to your own driveway
- Give dispatch the inbound flightFlight number and scheduled arrival at the time of booking, and a call if either changes. Dispatch is answered 24 hours a day, which matters on the late Atlanta and Florida arrivals.
- Claim your bags downstairsBaggage claim sits on the main level beside the rental counters, a short walk from the gates upstairs. There is no train, no bus and no terminal to change.
- Met at the BMI bag belt, beside the rental countersYour chauffeur is inside the terminal at baggage claim with your name, takes the bags as they come off the belt, and walks you out to the vehicle. You will not be reading signs in the parking lot with a bag in each hand.
- Home, or straight to the plantMost of our BMI arrivals go one of two ways: back down Interstate 55 toward Springfield, or across town to a plant or a campus meeting that started without you.
Private jets and charter

A good deal of what moves through Bloomington-Normal never touches the airline terminal. Executive Transportation drives the general aviation side of the field on the same terms as the front door, with a uniformed chauffeur and a single quote for the vehicle.
- 01
Pickup at the FBO lobby, not the airline doors
Charter, corporate and owner-flown arrivals clear through the fixed base operator on the field. Your chauffeur waits at that lobby instead of the airline doors, which is a different building and a different entrance altogether.
- 02
Plane-side luggage where the ramp allows it
With the operator’s clearance the bags go straight from the hold to the trunk beside the aircraft. Where ramp rules say otherwise, the handoff happens at the FBO door and the car is already parked at it.
- 03
One booking for the crew and the passengers
Crews need a hotel and passengers usually need an office or a plant. Both go on one reservation, in one vehicle or two, so nobody is left standing on a ramp waiting for a second car.
- 04
A Sprinter for the visiting group
An insurance delegation or a board arriving together fits one Sprinter with room for hard cases. Anything larger than that steps up to a coach. The quote covers the vehicle either way.
Where general aviation runs at BMI
- Synergy Flight Center2823 E Empire Street, Bloomington, Illinois 61704The fixed base operator on the field, with its own lobby, ramp and concierge desk. Synergy publishes weekday lobby hours from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., weekend hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and a ramp open until 10 p.m., plus an after-hours number for anything later.
Send dispatch the tail number, the operator and the scheduled arrival when you book, and call if the slot moves. Synergy publishes a ramp open until 10 p.m. and an after-hours number, and we work to whichever one your flight needs. We prefer 72 hours’ notice, but call anytime. Short-notice trips depend on availability.

Why be driven
Four reasons to be driven to BMI
The airport itself tells travelers to arrange a ride in advance. Here is what arranging it with a chauffeur actually buys you on this particular run.
A ride that exists when you land
CIRA says taxi and ride share options are limited at this time. A booked car is not competing with an app at 11 p.m. in McLean County, because it was reserved days ago.
Door to door, no shuttle at either end
The airport shuttle runs from the last arriving flight backward, not from your driveway. A chauffeur starts at your address and ends at the terminal entrance.
An hour you get back, twice
Seventy minutes each way is a real piece of a working day. In the back seat it is a call list, a brief, or the sleep you skipped to catch the first flight.
Uniformed chauffeurs since 2004
Executive Transportation has been driving Bloomington-Normal airport work for two decades. The chauffeur arrives early, in uniform, and knows the building.
We prefer 72 hours’ notice, but call anytime. Short-notice trips depend on availability.

Park or be driven
Park at BMI, or be driven to it
Parking here costs nothing, so the honest comparison is not about money. It is about what the car does to both ends of your trip.
- Cost to leave a car$0CIRA states that parking is easy and always free, for the whole length of the trip, in both of its lots.
- Short term, at the door2 hoursShort-term parking for stays of two hours or less sits directly in front of the terminal, with the long-term lot adjacent to it.
- Shuttle, on requestLift-equippedA complimentary wheelchair-accessible shuttle runs daily from two hours before the first departure through the last arriving flight.
Free parking is common at the Central Illinois regionals, so the real decision is which airport your flight actually leaves from. Compare the four.

BMI questions
What people ask before booking a Bloomington-Normal airport car
The answers below come from the airport’s own published pages at cira.com, checked in September 2026, and from the calibrated drive times we schedule against.
How far is Bloomington-Normal airport from Springfield?
Executive Transportation schedules the Springfield run to Central Illinois Regional Airport at about 68 miles and roughly an hour and ten minutes on clear roads, straight up Interstate 55. Weather and construction both add to that, so we set the pickup time backward from your departure rather than from the map.
Call (217) 523-5466 or request a quote.
Where does the chauffeur meet you at BMI?
Executive Transportation meets arriving passengers inside the terminal at baggage claim, on the main level beside the rental counters. Your chauffeur is waiting there with your name, takes the luggage as it comes off the belt, and walks you out to the vehicle, so you never stand outside looking for a car.
See how airport transportation works.
Which airlines fly out of Bloomington-Normal?
The airport lists three. American flies to Chicago O’Hare and Dallas-Fort Worth, Delta flies to Atlanta, and Allegiant flies to Orlando Sanford, Tampa St. Pete-Clearwater and Mesa Gateway. CIRA warns that schedules can change with little notice, so confirm with the carrier before you buy.
Compare the region in our regional airport guide.
Is parking free at Central Illinois Regional Airport?
Yes. CIRA states that parking is easy and always free, with short-term spaces directly in front of the terminal for stays under two hours and a long-term lot adjacent to them. A complimentary shuttle runs daily from two hours before the first departure through the last arriving flight.
Request a Quote and leave the car at home.
Are Uber and Lyft reliable at Bloomington-Normal airport?
The airport itself says taxi and ride share options are limited at this time, that Uber and Lyft operate in the region, and that travelers should arrange a ride in advance, especially for late night arrivals. Executive Transportation holds a named chauffeur and a specific vehicle against your flight instead.
Book it ahead at (217) 523-5466.
What time does the BMI terminal open?
The airport says the terminal opens two hours before the first scheduled flight of the day and that security screening opens roughly 90 minutes before the first scheduled departure. Arriving earlier than that buys you a locked door, which is why we build the pickup around the departure on your ticket.
Ask a coordinator at (217) 523-5466.
Do you pick up from private jets and charter flights at BMI?
Executive Transportation drives the general aviation side of Bloomington-Normal as well as the airline terminal. We meet private, charter and corporate aircraft at the fixed base operator rather than the front doors, load beside the airplane where the ramp allows, and carry crew and passengers on the same booking.
Send the tail number when you book the chauffeur.
Can you drive from Bloomington-Normal to O’Hare instead?
Yes. Executive Transportation runs Bloomington-Normal to Chicago O’Hare as a single booking, about 131 miles and roughly two hours fifteen on clear roads, and back again. It is the usual answer when the fare or the nonstop you need is only out of Chicago.

Book the ride
Request your BMI ride
Three things riders tell us made the difference on a Bloomington-Normal run.
The ride is already arranged
The airport asks travelers to book ground transportation in advance. A reserved chauffeur is the version of that which does not depend on an app.
One figure for the whole vehicle
The vehicle and chauffeur are quoted by the hour, with the minimum stated up front, and a coordinator plans the Interstate 55 run into those hours. Six colleagues share one vehicle, not six seats.
